ARTICLE XIV. - DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Section 14.01. - Organization.#

There shall be a Department of Public Works, the head of which shall be the Director of Public Works, who shall be either the Manager or a person appointed by the Manager with the approval of the Town Council. He/she shall be responsible for the efficient operation of all activities of the Department of Public Works. The further organization of the Department in separate divisions of offices shall be made by the Town Manager.

Section 14.02. - Powers and Duties.#

The Department of Public Works shall be responsible for the functions and services of the Town, relating to highways, bridges, engineering, public parking lots, solid waste disposal, including maintaining town grounds, public parks, playgrounds, beaches, recreation facilities and public buildings, except those of the School Department, unless requested under Section 11.10(H), and such other public works activities as may be defined by ordinance.

Section 14.03. - Tree Warden.#

There shall be a Tree Warden appointed by the Town Manager, who shall have the qualifications prescribed by State law. He/she shall perform the functions and duties of his/her office as prescribed by State law. His/her office shall be part of the Department of Public Works and he/she shall be under the general direction of the Director of Public Works.
