What it does
Existing law, the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act, requires the State Department of Developmental Services to contract with regional centers to provide services and supports to persons with developmental disabilities and their families. Existing law requires the department to establish policies and procedures for the development of an annual community placement plan by regional centers, and requires the plan to provide dedicated funding for comprehensive assessments of developmental center residents, identified costs of moving individuals from developmental centers to the community, and deflection of individuals from developmental center admission.
