What it does

Existing federal law prohibits an individual from acting as an agent or attorney in the preparation, presentation, or prosecution of any claim under laws administered by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs unless the individual has been recognized for those purposes, and further regulates the fees that may be charged for those services. Existing law, the Consumers Legal Remedies Act, prohibits a person from charging or receiving an unreasonable fee to prepare, aid, or advise certain persons in procuring, maintaining, or securing public social services, as defined.
