What it does

Existing law provides for the Medi-Cal program, which is administered by the State Department of Health Care Services, under which qualified low-income individuals receive health care services, as specified. The Medi-Cal program is, in part, governed and funded by federal Medicaid program provisions. Existing law provides that, to the extent that federal financial participation is available, face-to-face contact between a health care provider and a patient is not required under the Medi-Cal program for "teleophthalmology, teledermatology, and teledentistry by store and forward," as defined to mean the asynchronous transmission of medical information to be reviewed at a later time by a…
