What it does
Existing federal law provides that the Civil Air Patrol is a federally chartered nonprofit corporation that is a volunteer civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force whose purposes, among others, include providing an organization of private citizens with adequate facilities to assist in meeting local and national emergencies and assisting the United States Department of the Air Force in fulfilling its noncombat programs and missions.
