On January 20, 2026, as part of its reporting duties pursuant to the 'State Measurement for Accountable, Responsive, and Transparent (SMART) Government Act', or 'SMART Act', the department of law (DOL) submitted to the house of representatives and senate judiciary committees a report entitled 'Department of Law: 2026 Legislative Priorities' (DOL report). The DOL report recommended that the general assembly make various changes to laws concerning the powers and duties of the attorney general and the DOL.
