(2)
In determining a suitable location for the system, consideration shall be given to the size and shape of the lot, slope of natural and finished grade, depth of groundwater, proximity to existing or future water supplies, and possible expansion of the system. The sewage disposal system shall consist of a house sewer (from a point of three feet outside the foundation wall) and a septic tank system.
(3)
Where unusual conditions exist, other systems of disposal may be employed, provided they are acceptable to the department of plumbing, drainage, and inspection.
(4)
The septic tank system shall consist of a septic tank with effluent discharging into a subsurface disposal field or seepage pits, or a combination of the two.

House sewers. Pipe used for the construction of the house sewer shall be of adequate size and of cast iron, vitrified clay, concrete, cement-asbestos or plastic (only under Code USDC CS 228-61). Construction of the line shall be such as to secure watertight joints, and it shall be on a grade of not less than one-eighth inch per foot, and the ten feet immediately preceding the septic tank shall be not more than one-fourth inch per foot; in addition, no 90-degree ells shall be permitted and all 45-degree ells shall have accessible clean-outs.

From a dwelling with a basement: eight feet.
c.
From a concrete slab or below a basement: three feet.
(2)
Liquid capacity shall be based upon the number of bedrooms contemplated in the dwelling served and shall conform to the following table:
Table 15-5. Septic Tank Liquid Capacity Number of Bedrooms Capacity in Gallons
2 or less 900
3 1,000
4 1,100
5 1,300
(3)
Design shall be such as to provide access for cleaning and adequate volume for settling and for sludge and scum storage. Location of the disposal field shall be in an unobstructed and unshaded area, and the distances given shall be the minimum which the disposal field can be located from the following:
a.
Well water supply: 125 feet.
b.
Streams: 20 feet.
c.
Dwellings: ten feet.
d.
Property lines: five feet.
(4)
All trenches in a disposal field shall be the same width and length and the following standards shall be required:
a.
Minimum number of lines per field: two.
b.
Maximum length of individual lines: 100 feet.
c.
Minimum bottom width of trench: 18 inches.
d.
Minimum cover over distribution lines: 12 inches.
In no event shall the total effective leaching area be less than 170 square feet in the case of disposal trenches or 250 square feet in the case of disposal beds.
(e)
Cesspools.
(1)

a.
Well water supply: 150 feet.
b.
Property lines: 20 feet.
c.
Dwellings: 20 feet.
