A "bus" means any vehicle, including a trailer bus, designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than fifteen persons including the driver. A "bus" also means a vehicle designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than ten persons, including the driver, which is used to transport persons for compensation or profit, or is used by any nonprofit organization or group. A bus may also mean any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers. The definition of a "bus" herein does not alter the definition of a schoolbus, school pupil activity bus, general public paratransit vehicle, or youth bus. Pursuant to California vehicle code Section 233, a vanpool vehicle is not a bus.
